Monitoring of the use of rocket stoves and solar cookers (November 2011)
During our stay in Loum we have visited several families who get rocket stoves in March 2010 to check the degree of utilization and satisfaction. We have also visited the hospitals that received a parabolic solar cooker.
In the homes visited, the rocket stove is still used commonly in combination with the three stones fire. Women appreciate the reduction of smoke in their homes. They use the rocket stoves for cooking sauces and food for a small group of people. Some women use branches collected from the plantations, leaving them to dry a few days before using them. In general, women are satisfied with this product, and the only comment is that it would better if a little larger and stronger, to stop permanently the use of the three stones fire.

As for the solar cookers distributed mostly in health centers, we visited five places accompanied by the Chairman of the local development committee, Mr. Gabriel Datchoua. Generally, the solar cookers have been stored during the rainy season that just ended, and now use them again, especially for hot water available to nurses and patients, both for cleaning and for cook. During the visit we help the center staff to clean the accumulated dust and put them up, giving a brief explanation of the terms of use and maintenance, as there are always new staff in hospitals.
