During the month of March of 2010 a project has been carried out to introduce the solar and economical cookers in Loum (Cameroon), together with the ONGD Africa EduSa.

100 manufactured economical cookers (rocket stoves) have been brought from South Africa and they have been given to women of three neighborhoods of Loum-Chantiers. The beneficiaries have been summoned to several training sessions, where the functioning of the economical cookers and its advantages are explained. The same amount of water is boiled with the typical fire and with the economical cooker, in both cases with the same amount of wood. The women can check out how the economical ones consume less wood and make less smoke. Moreover, they work with branches and twigs, a resource wasted at present, actually the fire is made with stumps result of cutting great trees of the jungle. The twigs, however, are always in the fields disposable of crop or like branches fallen down. Finally, we prepare a tea with the hot water and we make donation of the economical cookers to each woman summoned, that they sign a contract where they compromise on using it and to not give it or sell it. For the time being, it seems that the women believe that this new tool will be very useful for them, although it is necessary moreover to wait for the follow-up.

The introduction of solar cookers has been made in smaller scale. Precisely, donation of 10 units has made itself in health centres and hospitals of Loum, to be able to pasteurize water, to cook for the medical staff, and to sterilize medical material when there are cuts in the electrical current, usual situation in Loum.

We also have been training to a local smith in the construction of economical cookers. With the possibility to be able to have locally produced cookers, two women who will make the follow-up of the use of the distributed economical cookers has been hired, and also commercial of the new product, animating to other women to acquire an economical cooker. Sol Solidari has compromised during the next months on subsidizing a part of the cost of the cookers to the families that want to use this technology.
